Modernizing a local results app into a customer engagement platform
We redesigned and expanded an existing racing results application, turning a limited local tool into a platform that’s actually good for customer engagement, promotions, and competition between racing locations.

Results
Each competition grew from 8–10 registered customers to 50+ across locations
The challenge
The original application let racing venues offer a few customer-facing features, but its capabilities were pretty limited.
Most of it only worked at the local venue level. The system couldn’t really connect different racing locations, support broader competition formats, or give the client much of a foundation for customer engagement.
It also demanded a fair amount of technical understanding from venue managers just to run it properly — more training, more support calls, more of the client’s time.
As the network of locations grew and customer expectations rose with it, the original application got harder and harder to expand or even maintain.
The modernization project needed to tackle a few things at once:
limited functionality
local-only usage
restricted competition formats
reliability issues
dependence on technical knowledge
difficult manager onboarding
limited tools for customer communication and retention
Before — isolated local tools, one per venue, each needing technical know-how
The modernization goal
The goal wasn’t to rebuild the old application with a shinier interface.
It needed to grow from a local results tool into a broader engagement platform — one that could:
share racing results with customers
promote offers, events, and future activities
give customers a reason to come back
connect multiple racing locations
support location-versus-location competitions
be easier for venue managers to run day to day
give the client a sturdier base for whatever comes next
The solution
We modernized the application’s functionality, its user experience, and the software underneath both of them.
The updated web app gives racing locations a much clearer way to publish results and promotions to their customers. Participants stay connected with the venue after their session ends, can look back at how they did, and actually have reasons to return.
It also connects the participating locations to one another. Rather than treating every venue as its own island, the product now supports activities and competitions that span multiple locations — shared events, location-versus-location racing, that kind of thing.
After — one modernized platform connects venues, customers, promotions, and cross-location competition
Key improvements
01
Expanded customer result sharing
Racing locations share session and competition results through a customer-facing web experience.
Results become part of an ongoing relationship with the venue instead of just disappearing once the session ends.
02
Promotions connected with participation
Venues push promotions, activities, and upcoming events through the same platform.
Customer communication builds naturally out of the experience the participant just had.
03
Cross-location connections
The modernized platform links locations within one shared product ecosystem.
Competitions and activities can now reach beyond a single venue.
04
Location-versus-location competitions
Venues can take part in shared competition formats.
Customers represent their home location and compare results with racers elsewhere — a networked experience, not a single-venue results tool.
05
Simpler manager experience
The updated application trims down the technical knowledge venue managers actually need.
Clearer workflows for the common tasks mean lighter, less technical training per location.
06
Improved reliability
Modernization dealt with structural limitations baked into the old product.
A more dependable foundation for day-to-day venue use, and it’s much easier to add capabilities going forward.
Modernization approach
We started by separating what actually worked in the original product from the limitations that kept it from growing.
The modernization process included:
Reviewing existing functionality and user workflowsIdentifying technical and operational bottlenecksSimplifying the manager-facing experienceExpanding the product beyond local usageRedesigning how locations, competitions, results & promotions relateImproving system reliabilityPreparing the application for future product development
Modernization principle
Where it made sense, familiar concepts from the existing application stayed put. We only redesigned workflows and software structure where the old approach was creating unnecessary complexity.
From local software to a connected platform
Before
×Features available only in limited scenarios
×Activity isolated within individual locations
×Managers needed technical guidance
×Cross-location competitions difficult or unavailable
×Reliability issues increased support requirements
×Limited foundation for future development
After
✓Results and promotions support ongoing customer engagement
✓Multiple locations participate in the same platform
✓Location-versus-location competitions become possible
✓Manager workflows require less technical knowledge
✓More reliable in everyday operation
✓Stronger foundation for future expansion
The result
The modernized application gives racing locations more ways to actually build relationships with their customers.
Results get shared right after a session, promotions nudge people toward a return visit, and cross-location activities create a bigger sense of participation than any single venue could on its own. A competition used to mean 8–10 registered customers from one location; cross-location events now regularly bring 50+ onto the same board, which makes a result worth checking — and worth beating.
For the client, it’s also just easier to distribute and support. Venue managers don’t need the same level of technical training anymore, which means less friction as more locations come onto the platform.
The modernization improved both the day-to-day experience and the product’s long-term staying power.
Business impact
✓
Stronger customer loyalty
Participants have more reasons to check back on results, follow venue activities, and return for the next competition.
✓
Higher value from each racing session
A visit becomes the start of an ongoing relationship instead of a one-time transaction.
✓
50+ registered customers per competition
Cross-location events replaced local competitions of 8–10 — a scale an isolated application never could have run. Early signs point to growing social media exposure too, though that’s not formally measured yet.
✓
Lower training requirements
Simplified workflows cut down the technical instruction venue managers need up front.
✓
Improved product reliability
A steadier application means fewer interruptions and fewer support tickets.
✓
A more scalable software foundation
Ready for more locations, more functionality, and more customer-engagement tools as they come.
Modernization as an opportunity, not just an update
Instead of just refreshing an old local tool, we built a connected platform that helps racing venues share results, promote what’s coming next, organize bigger competitions, and build customer relationships that actually last.
Running on software that’s holding you back? We can map out what modernization would look like for you — without breaking what already works.
